Smart Metering

Estimated meter readings frequently result in businesses receiving significantly higher energy bills than they should and this then involves them in unnecessary work in trying to recover the overpayment.

In many cases this can be overcome with the installation of “Smart Metering” to meter the electricity, gas, and/or water services to each premise. The smart meter records the usage every half hour and transmits it to the Data Collector/Meter Operator via a mobile phone network. This means all bills will be based on actual consumptions and a true picture of the usage in each premise can be established.

The system also allows for analysis of the energy used in each premise via the internet to facilitate a degree of energy management.

The implementation of the Carbon Reduction Commitment scheme places great emphasis on accuracy of data and there are initial benefits for those organisations which install AMR prior to 2011.
