Gas prices moved down across the curve on Friday with weaker commodity markets providing bearish pressure. Coal, power and carbon all decreased, while a healthy supply picture weighed on the front of the curve despite a colder and less windy forecast for the weekend. Most power contracts eased down during Friday’s session with direction coming from falling gas, coal and carbon markets, with carbon in particular experiencing a strong sell-off. The prompt was one of the few exceptions to the downward movement with support provided by an expected drop in wind levels and temperatures over the weekend.

The system has opened 15mcm long this morning despite a drop in temperatures which has lifted heating demand. Flows from Norway and the Netherlands into the UK have picked up, while LNG send-outs remain healthy; weighing on gas prices. Meanwhile, fuel markets continue to weaken with the exception of oil which displays a small rebound. Brent Summary

Brent 1st-nearby prices display a rebound this morning following strong losses last week on the back of falling stock markets. Support was provided by US sanctions over Iran which is expected to reduce the amount of crude oil on the market.

Market close data has revealed that the 1-year forward price for both commercial gas & commercial electricity decreased – closing at 63.20ppt and £60.58/MWh, respectively.
