Tell us about your role and what you enjoy about it

My role is quite varied but essentially it involves looking after our clients' utility contracts from start to finish.

A major aspect of the role is the procurement of contracts. During the contract period I work with suppliers to resolve any issues the client may have and provide advice and assistance to the client.

The most enjoyable aspect of the job is building relationships with clients and the responsibility that comes with that. It's important that the client trusts us to do our best for them.

What are the big challenges and opportunities the industry is facing at the moment?

With more and more emphasis on renewable energy and investment in renewable technology, the costs involved with these initiatives are increasing and being passed onto everyone.

The end result is obviously very beneficial but we are working with clients to help them manage these extra costs.

We've also seen strong increases in the wholesale markets over the past 12 months. The next biggest challenge is trying to predict how the markets will react when Britain leaves the EU next March.

Most often quoted advice to clients

In the current market conditions, we're talking to clients about the benefits of committing to longer term, fully fixed contracts. Longer term contract rates are generally lower and in the current conditions they protect against the increasing non-energy costs which now make up the majority of the delivered unit rate, at around 60 per cent in total.

Football or Rugby?

Being a born and bred 'Wigin lad' I'd have to say rugby league although, I am a big footie and NFL fan as well.

Advice to your younger self?

To quote my favourite band 'When you're through thinking, say yes'.

Often heard saying?

Usually the same thing twice because of my Wigan accent...and sometimes even three times!

Name three things you can't live without:

Spotify, my PS4 and Sky Sports.

Favourite place in the world?

Sat behind my drum kit.

How do you like your brew?

I take both tea and coffee with milk and sugar. Double strength coffee for the first brew of the day!
