Danish energy firm, Dong is to change its name to Ørsted as part of its transformation as a green energy company.

Dong Energy have announced that it will be changing its name to Ørsted to reflect the company’s transformation to becoming a green supplier and its abandonment of fossil fuels.

Dong stands for Danish Oil and Natural Gas but recently sold its oil and gas arm to Ineos, as reported by Apollo Energy back in May, read more here. As a result of this change in ethos towards the way the company produces energy, Orsted has now been chosen as its new trading name.

Hans Christian Ørsted was a Danish scientist who discovered electromagnetism in 1820 which paved the way in how energy is produced today.

Ørsted have taken the decision to go ‘green’ to help tackle climate change and will be a central figure in the UK’s transition away from fossil fuels by providing its customers with 100% renewable energy at no extra cost.

Any customers with an account with Dong Energy will see no change and any direct debits will automatically transfer to the new name, however, customers who pay using BACS will need to ensure payments are made to Ørsted.
