Marinelink.com has reported that Japan is trialling its first offshore wind farm off the coast of Goto Islands, Nagasake Prefecture. The trial comes after an energy ministry spokesperson for the Japanese Government said that diversifying the energy sources in the country has 'become a significant national issue' after the Fukushima disaster back in 2011. The wind farm trial will be carried out by a technical team from the country's Environment Ministry - which put in place the 100kW turbine. The offshore facility is located around 1km off the coast of Kabashima Island, Goto Islands. Japan's Environment Ministry hopes to use the country's first offshore wind farm trial as an opportunity for 'wider development of national wind power generation'.
