Gas prices moved down on Wednesday, following the overall energy complex, with power & carbon markets both weakening. Commodities continue to fall due to the effects of the Coronavirus, while a warmer weather outlook should weigh on gas demand.

Gas prices decreased on Tuesday, taking direction from weaker coal & oil, as any support provided by OPEC production cuts was quickly erased. Am undersupplied system limited any losses on the prompt but the short-term supply/ demand outlook is healthy.

Gas markets were closed on Friday due to the Easter Bank Holiday, with only Brent Crude continuing to trade over this period. OPEC+ agreed to cut production by 10M BBL/ day, although traders wait to see if Texan and Norwegian producers will agree to similar terms.

Gas prices decreased during Wednesday’s session, particularly on the near-curve as warmer weather and improved renewable power generation should reduce demand. Further out, the losses were less significant due to a rise in oil and carbon.

Commodities continue to mirror movement on equity markets which, in turn has dictated gas prices, with the majority of contracts displaying gains yesterday. Prices eased down towards the end of the session but still ended the day higher.
