Gas prices inched higher on Monday, taking direction from the broader energy complex which was pushed higher by rising oil. A weaker Pound also helped towards the gains, although an oversupplied system capped upward movement on the near curve.

Near curve gas prices moved down on Friday as milder weather was expected over the weekend and the start of this week, in addition to improved wind levels, resulting in low demand. However, contracts further out climbed higher with support provided by a bullish oil market.

Gas prices displayed minor gains towards the end of Thursday’s session, finding support from a recovery on oil markets. A drop in flows provided additional upward pressure, combined with a stronger demand outlook for today.

Gas prices closed slightly lower yesterday as the April-20, Q2-20 & Summer-20 contracts expired. Weaker demand also weighed on the near curve as the lockdown has reduced industrial consumption, while weaker coal and oil pressured down prices further along the curve.

Gas prices opened Tuesday’s session at a premium but eased down throughout the day as a warmer weather forecast and the national lockdown is expected to reduce demand. Oil prices also corrected downwards towards the end of the session, resulting in further losses.
